Developed for embedded and thin client applications

While SATA based solid state drives are going strong in the desktop and server market, embbeded solution developers still rely on the traditional PATA interface for many of their devices, so Apacer has just released two new series of industrial modular PATA SSD for embedded and thin client applications.

The new solid state drives were released into the ADM4 and ADM4-M product series, the first one of these including SSDs with capacities ranging from 1GB to 16GB.

All the drives in the ADM4 series rely on SLC (Single-Level-Cell) NAND Flash and are able to reach read/write transfer speeds of up to 80/50 MB/sec, several times higher than their predecessors.

Furthermore, in order to be used in stringent environments, products from this line are all designed to operate at extended temperatures, ranging from -40°C to 85°C.

Moving to the ADM4-M product series, this was designed in order to offer more storage capacity at lower prices, which means that it relies on more cost-effective MLC (Multi-Level Cell) NAND memory.

Thanks to this change, the SSDs can now offer up to 64GB of storage space, while maximum sequential read/write speed are rated at 75/25 MB/sec.

Both series adopt a 44-pin connector and can be installed either in parallel (at 180°) or perpendicularly (at 90° or 270°) for various mechanisms.

PATA interface is still widely used due to its earlier application. To address IPC customers’ actual needs, Apacer has been launching new products with PATA interface.

“This not only prevents it from out-of-stock but also boosts the performance and stability of customers’ existing platforms,” reads an official Apacer press statement.

Apacer has already made available samples of ADM4 and ADM4-M products to its customers, which want to test the new drives. No information regarding pricing was released.
