Android mobile phone users out there have now yet another application to enjoy on their handsets, namely the Discovery Channel solution, delivered specifically by Discovery Communications for handsets that run under Google's Android operating system. According to the leading nonfiction media company, the new software solution is meant to offer users the possibility to enjoy greater access to the network’s compelling content.

“Consumers are increasingly looking to connect with their favorite shows and talent anytime, anywhere and now fans with Android-powered devices have a Discovery Channel application just for them,” said Todd Zander, vice president of Digital Media Distribution, Discovery Communications. “With the increasing popularity of Android devices, we are thrilled to bring viewers another exciting platform that allows them to experience our high-quality content and satisfy their curiosity on-the-go.”

The new Discovery Channel application for Android phone users will come with access to a variety of videos that feature the network’s most popular content from MYTHBUSTERS and MAN VS.WILD to DEADLIEST CATCH and SHARK WEEK, the company also notes. Those who would like to enjoy all of its features should head over to the Android Market, where the new software solution is available for download.

According to the company, the new Discovery Channel application for Android does not only offer access to a great collection of videos, but it also provides users with a series of quizzes, photo galleries, programming schedules and videos from Discovery News, not to mention that they can browse and purchase DVDs or other products from the DiscoveryStore.com as well. The company further notes that the new app has been “designed and built by mobile video leader Rhythm NewMedia,” and that all users can enjoy it from Google's software portal for free.

“The launch of the Discovery Channel application for Android is a part of Discovery’s broad portfolio of mobile services, which includes short-form content and long-form episodes of popular titles through distribution partnerships with the majority of mobile video services including V Cast and MobiTV; a collection of Smartphone apps including the Discovery Channel app for iPhone and iPod touch, a top-ranked entertainment app; and direct-to-consumer mobile websites for multiple brands including Discovery Channel, TLC, and Animal Planet, available at discoverymobile.com,” Discovery Communications concludes.
