FlyCast announced today the launch of its own mobile application development ecosystem, which comes under the name of 'appMobi', and which is aimed at offering web developers new way of building rich applications for the iPhone and for Android-based mobile phones. Moreover, the company added that the new apps could be developed through the use of familiar tools, including Adobe DreamWeaver and Microsoft Visual Studio.

FlyCast is already known around the world for its mobile entertainment apps on smartphones, yet the company says that it plans on offering its internal tools to developers who aim at the creation of cross-platform applications, and who are also looking for deployment and monetization solutions. The new appMobi ecosystem provides developers with a “write once, deploy everywhere” capability, the company notes, adding that the solution comes towards developers free of charge.

“appMobi augments PhoneGap with FlyCast’s proven content management system, advertising (targeting, insertion and tracking), cloud services, realtime updating, reporting and payment and subscription tools to allow developers to quickly create, deploy and monetize highly interactive applications that address all popular smartphone platforms,” the company notes.

The appMobi tools are available for developers looking to build apps for the iPhone, Android or BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Symbian devices, and the apps are based on HTML and Javascript, through the use of open source PhoneGap tools. At the same time, the company also announced that it would offer enhanced certification, QA, and support around the PhoneGap-based APIs. The solution will be offered as a preview to select developers starting with January 22, with general availability set to start on March 1.

“We want to enable all developers to participate on mobile devices. While open source libraries like PhoneGap form a basis for that movement, building such libraries into an executable for each smartphone is still a daunting task. We want the process to be as simple as Adobe’s Print-to-PDF functionality: write the HTML code, print to appMobi, get your app on multiple platforms,” said Sam Abadir, FlyCast founder & CTO.
