T-Mobile myTouch 3G, the US version of HTC Magic, is about to get better. According to the latest reports around the Internet, wireless carrier T-Mobile is set to upgrade the device to the latest flavor of Google's Android operating system, namely Android 2.2. There are no specific details available on when that might actually happen, but the software solution is expected to arrive soon, it seems, which means that an official announcement might be near.

Internet giant Google unveiled the new Android 2.2 Froyo operating system only several weeks ago, when HTC announced that most of the Android phones it launched during the ongoing year would receive an update to it. This would include the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide too, HTC said, and now we learn that T-Mobile is actually set to upgrade the older myTouch 3G too.

All in all, this is great news for myTouch 3G fans, especially for those who hoped for a chance to enjoy the latest Android version on their devices. An internal screenshot from T-Mobile, which made it into the wild via TmoNews, confirms the carrier's plans, while also unveiling the fact that myTouch 3G is set to receive about the same user interface as the myTouch 3G Slide.

Among the goodies that should soon arrive for the older device, we can count a new version of the Faves Gallery, along with Genius Button functionality, and full support for Microsoft Exchange. Other goodies are also included in the solution, though one thing that remains to be seen is how well the older hardware on myTouch 3G will be able to handle the new operating system version.

No word surfaced on what will happen with the first Android-based handset, the T-Mobile G1, yet chances that it might taste an official Android 2.2 solution too are rather slim. It shouldn't be too long before the Froyo update is released for all myTouch 3G devices out there, so keep an eye on this space for further updates on the matter.
