Samsung Galaxy S owners in Australia who are also Optus customers have now the possibility to download and install the latest version of Android available for their devices.

The Android 2.2 Froyo update has just started to roll-out for Galaxy S device on the wireless carrier's airwaves, more than one month after being announced as available for the first time.

In late October, Optus jumped the gun on Android 2.2 for Galaxy S and announced that the solution was available for it customers via the Samsung Kies software.

However, it admitted soon after that it made the announcement erroneously, and that the software was in a testing phase in its labs.

For what it's worth, it seems that the update is now ready to land on Galaxy S units on its airwaves, and some of the carrier's users are already reporting successful updates.

“Today my Kies was showing Froyo update!! And I’ve successfully upgraded it (JP5). Nice work Optus!!! My Kiess is 1.5.0.170. I’m very happy after a long wait…,” on of our readers says in a comment to our previous article on Froyo for Galaxy S in Australia.

For those out of the loop, we should note that this update is expected to offer a nice range of enhancements on Galaxy S devices out there.

Among these enhancements, we can list:

- Google Maps with Navigation: GPS navigation system with voice guidance - Adobe Flash Player 10.1: Allow the web browser to make full use of the whole web - Setup Wizard: Quickly customize the GALAXY S and access networks with ease - Home Screen/Menu Preview and Edit : Preview by pinch-zoom - Search in-Browser : Google, Translate, Wikipedia, Dictionary

At the same time, the new OS version should offer Galaxy S users the possibility to enjoy improved performance levels on their devices, not to mention that they would get support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1, for a better Internet browsing experience.

Samsung’s unique in-house software upgrade program, called Samsung Kies, can be downloaded from Softpedia too, via this link. The software is available on Samsung's website as well.
