Amazon doesn’t have the habit of providing the press with sales figures for their Kindle devices, but today the company made an exception and revealed that for the past three weeks it has been selling more than a million Kindles a week.

Amazon’s Kindle product line comprises four products with prices ranging between $79 (60.6 EUR) and $199 (152.68).

Outside of the regular eReaders offered by the company, the lineup also includes the 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet, which Amazon says is the most successful device of the bunch.

“Kindle Fire is the most successful product we’ve ever launched – it’s the bestselling product across all of Amazon for 11 straight weeks, we’ve already sold millions of units, and we’re building millions more to meet the high demand,” said Dave Limp, vice president, Amazon Kindle.

“In fact, demand is accelerating – Kindle Fire sales increased week over week for each of the past three weeks.

“People are buying Kindle Fire because it's a simple, fully-integrated service that makes it easy to do the things they love – watch movies, read books and magazines, listen to music, download apps, play games, and surf the web,” concluded the company’s rep.

Amazon unveiled the Kindle Fire on September 28 and the tablet is based on a customized version of Android.

Hardware wise, the Fire has a 7-inch IPS screen with a 1024x600 resolution, Gorilla Glass coating, a dual-core processor, and all of these are fitted inside a chassis that weighs 14.6 ounces (roughly 413 grams).

Since the Fire is designed primarily for media consumption, it offers its access to more than 19 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, magazines, apps and games, such as Netflix, Hulu, Pandora and Angry Birds.

Despite its huge popularity, the Kindle Fire has also been the target of many grievances with users complaining about poor Wi-Fi connectivity, slow browsing speed and lack of privacy. To address these issues, Amazon has promised a firmware update that should arrive before Christmas.
