Alltel Wireless announced recently the introduction of Research In Motion's BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone for its subscribers, a device that brings both style and functionality, and which will become available for purchase in early May from retail stores and online at alltel.com. The new handset adds to Alltel’s spring line-up of phones, while also being able to offer users control over how, when and where they communicate in a stylish and compact design.

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone comes with a high-resolution external display that offers users the possibility to screen calls and preview messages, while the internal display enables them to respond to calls or messages, view maps and web pages, or play games. The internal LCD can offer a 240 x 320 pixel resolution while playing videos and pictures in crisp contrast.

“Alltel is committed to offering customers stylish and innovative phones, and the BlackBerry Pearl Flip gives customers the best of both worlds – a small, stylish smartphone rich in multimedia coupled with the industry’s leading mobile email and messaging capabilities,” said Angela Rittgers, director of product management for Alltel Wireless. “As Alltel expands its handset lineup and showcases hot phones for spring, we know that the BlackBerry Pearl Flip will be a favorite with customers across the 22 states that we continue to service.”

What the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 has to offer to Alltel's users includes a large SureType QWERTY keyboard, trackball navigation, an intuitive UI, built-in GPS with support for BlackBerry Maps and location-based applications, as well as a 2-megapixel photo snapper that also comes with video recording capabilities.

Other features of the phone include full HTML browsing, along with a rich media player that can also sync music from iTunes or Windows Media Player. The handset also comes with a microSD/SDHC memory card slot with support for up to 16GB of additional storage space, as well as with stereo Bluetooth support. Those who will acquire the phone will also be able to activate it on BlackBerry Internet Service and BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

According to Alltel Wireless, the new BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone will be available for$79.99, after a $70 mail-in rebate, and upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the carrier on a qualifying Smart Choice Pack, which starts at as little as $69.99 per month and includes unlimited data, email and Web access.
