One may have assumed that, with ultrathin notebooks, desktops and netbooks running rampant, Acer would be more inclined to sit back and relax instead of going forward with even more product launches. This doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, it is quite likely that those many unveilings were only seasonings for the more recent devices that the Taiwanese outfit has brought forth. One of them, in particular, stands out.

Acer has just unleashed the AS8943G. Essentially, this is a high-end notebook that pays no mind to affordability, instead packing as much horsepower as possible as to enable the ultimate multimedia experience. Mostly, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850, with 1GB of RAM, is responsible for video playback. The rest of the feature set is in no way less noteworthy, though.

The laptop has a panel size of 18.4 inches and the LED-backlit LCD itself has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. A core i7 quad-core CPU lies at the heart of the configurations, whereas up to 8GB of RAM make sure that applications never run out of resources. The machine also integrates a Blu-ray drive, speakers with a dedicated subwoofer, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, Bluetooth and WiFi. Finally, to ensure maximum user enjoyment, Acer threw in an aluminum cover with combined glossy/matte finish, a chiclet keyboard and a dual-mode touchpad.

“The Acer Aspire AS8943G Series of notebooks are first-class multimedia centers that deliver an unparalleled high-definition personal theatre experience,” said Ray Sawall, Acer product marketing. “Designed for the most discriminating and style-conscious consumer, these new notebooks combine an elegant, simplistic design with top-of-the line technologies and usability features, taking PC-based entertainment to a whole new level.”

The Acer AS8943G is already eager to spread DirectX 11 bliss to customers willing to part with at least $1,550.
