One of the latest Android-based smartphones to become available for purchase on the Canadian market was the Acer Liquid mt, which is now on sale at wireless carrier Rogers.

Running under Google's Android Froyo 2.2 operating system, the new device sports HSDPA 14.4Mbps connectivity options, which offer users the possibility to download files or browse the Internet much faster than before.

Not only would the handset sport fast connectivity options, but it is also a good looking device, elegant and ergonomic, with soft curves and a capacitive touch screen display.

“We're expecting the Liquid mt to be a hit with our customers in Canada,” said Dan Gralak, VP of Sales for Acer, Smart Handheld Business Group Americas.

“It integrates best in class technology, including a Flash-friendly browser, long battery life and a feature-rich 5MP camera in a sleek design.

“From quick web browsing and downloads to aggregating social media updates, this handheld puts organizational power and entertainment in the palm of your hand.”

The specifications list of this device would include a 3.6-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen (480x800-pixel), along with a Qualcomm 7230 800MHz processor, complemented by 512MB of RAM.

At the same time, Acer notes that the smartphone includes WiFi b/g/n, GPS and Bluetooth capabilities, WiFi Hotspot, microSD memory card slot (with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space), or Flash 10.1 support for enhanced Web navigation.

On the back, the Acer Liquid mt sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, geo-tagging, and HD video recording capabilities. The phone is powered by a battery that can deliver up to 8 hours of talk time or up to 550 hours in standby.

The smartphone comes with various multimedia features as well, including support for Xvid, H.264 or MPEG-4 file formats, Dolby Surround, or Dynamic Bass Boost.

On top of the Android 2.2 Froyo OS, Acer threw its Acer 4.0 user interface, with increased intuitiveness, and with a series of specific applications, such as Acer SocialJogger, which aggregates Facebook and Twitter feeds.

“The Liquid mt also comes with apps from Rogers. Customers can use Shop to customize their ring with a ringtone or ringback as all well as download games, graphics, videos and music with UrMusic,” Acer notes.

“My Account lets customers manage their own wireless account right from their phone for viewing their account balance and history, making payments and browsing subscriptions.

“Mobile Backup automatically performs regular, secure back-ups of contact information and personally created content like pictures and videos without requiring a cable hookup,” the company explains.

The new smartphone would also offer users the possibility to download and install a flurry of other applications via the Android Market. Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes and Documents to Go (with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe PDF support) are also included into the mix.

Rogers has the new Acer Liquid mt smartphone available for its customers with a price tag of $49.99 attached to it upon the signing of a three-year term contract, and priced at $399.99 off contract.
