What's up in the world of Mario and Master Chief?

It's been another week packed with games, even if we're still in the very early stages of 2009. Let's take a look back and see what was important and even somewhat funny in the last few days.

With dismay, I found out on Monday that the judge whom I praised last week was not so enlightened about videogames as I believed and that he actually pretty much believes videogames, be it Halo 3 or another, can make a teen commit murder. It's sad but not as sad as seeing that American schools are seriously thinking about using Wii Fit, the Balance Board and the Nintendo Wii as a way of teaching physical education. Come on, school principals, just make those kids run outside!

On Tuesday, we found out that Burnout Paradise would get a boxed edition on February 5 in North America and on February 6 in Europe, allowing PC players to get their hands on one of the best racing titles of the last year with a lot of DLC added. Also, rumors are being whispered that Blizzard is getting ready to put Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty through a beta stage bound to make the happiness level of Korea go through the roof.

On Wednesday, Microsoft and Sony sparred like children in the sand box over the merits of their respective consoles, with Kaz Hirai saying that the Xbox 360 lacked longevity, while the PlayStation 3 was praised as being the leader of the field. Aaron Greenberg shot back and things got heated, while Sony showed off its list of exclusive releases for 2009.

Thursday saw the release of another title update for Gears of War 2 on the Xbox 360 (What's that? The console will mean the death of patches?), which apparently fixes matchmaking and multiplayer balance (although the forums are screaming that this has not happened), while Rockstar announced the Achievements list for the Lost and Damned DLC for GTA IV.

Friday was kind of slow on the news front. The notable announcements came from Ubisoft, which revealed a new Assassin's Creed and its other games for 2009 and 2010, while the White House technology level of the Bush years was described as Atari like by an Obama spokesperson.

Also, I talked twice about Neverwinter Nights 2 during the last two weeks, pointing out the burden of choice and the burden of loot. Take a look if you're interested in getting into the latest Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 PC experience - Storm of Zehir.
