All in one day

Battlefield 1943 has generated much more interest than DICE ever thought it would. When the game was released, the servers were assaulted by so many potential players that connections were incredibly slow, lag was incredibly high and the game was pretty much unplayable for a short while.

DICE quickly stepped in to add more servers to cope with the load and squash all the bugs that made it into the final release. But only after the weekend was done and after some staffers stayed awake for more than 43 hours, the game was considered to be stable and completely playable.

Gordon VanDyke, a representative of DICE, has posted on the official forum about the whole experience and also shared that 29.45 years of game time were logged in by the players in the first day since launch, when 5 million kills were also ramped up by gamers.

Electronic Arts is not saying how many people downloaded Battlefield 1943, which was only released on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace. If the game proves to be a big success, EA might actually consider delivering more titles as downloads only on the various digital distribution services, both on consoles and on the PC.

VanDyke is saying that the problems encountered are now in the rear window and that the team at DICE is focused on making sure that it all works as intended with all servers. It seems that new Xbox 360 servers are located in Amsterdam, Miami, Fremont and Tokyo, while the locations for the PlayStation 3 are in Amsterdam, Virginia, L.A. and Tokyo.

Battlefield 1943 only offers three maps and a fourth unlockable one, three player classes and no clan options. Still, the action is fast, the game is well balanced and offers that multiplayer experience that fans of the Battlefield series have been looking for.
