Also, featuring more destruction

We already knew that one of the Battlefield-branded games that DICE would be working on in the following period was Bad Company 2. But the details regarding the videogame were scarce so it was nice to see Electronic Arts officially unveil the game, showing a walkthrough of one single-player mission and some more details related to the overall feeling of the title.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, who is the senior producer on the game, said that the tone of the release would be a “bit more serious this time.” How much serious is unclear, especially judging by the way the demoed missions looked and played. The already well-known characters from the original game are back and they are tasked with following an enemy vehicle in a town covered in snow.

The short gameplay session revealed two things: DICE is still interested in making fun of military jargon, deploying so much of it as to turn the chase into slapstick, and it is even more interested in creating chaos.

The original game in the series prided itself on the way you could destroy the environment around your opponents as they completed their objectives. In the sequel, players will have even more power to cause destruction, especially what DICE calls “micro destruction,” which means that holes show up in cover more often and that more weapons can blond the player temporarily, to simulate the chaotic nature of the battlefield.

Troedsson added that “We want to give the player more vehicles, and even make their handling and their physics 'tighter' for a better experience.” There is also talk about DICE introducing blood in the game, a first for the Battlefield series. The company also promised that it would bring the full details regarding the multiplayer portion of Bad Company at this year's E3 trade show.
