1 Million Users for Nokia's WidSets

- WidSets passes important milestone

By: Elena Balan, Communications News Editor

The WidSet service has just reached an impressive number of 1 million users. This is a great accomplishment for Nokia, as such performances have not ever been reached before by any other company that provides anything similar to WidSets.

In fact, this is a service that manages to offer its users more facilities than any other application of this type. In fact, it brings the most important Internet services that might be
of interest for the mobile phone user. By this, we mean news, weather reports, blogs, news and other types of information that could prove useful. Moreover, it enables anyone to connect to a community and receive alerts on what members have posted.

"Having 1 million registered users in the mobile space is almost unheard of and WidSets has clearly set the benchmark for tools and distribution channels designed for content and media owners", said Ulla Särkikangas, Director of Consumer Internet Services at Nokia Emerging Business Unit.

The service is available after installing widgets applications that take up very little space from the phone's memory. These are used in order to make it possible for the phone user to receive the latest information provided on the Internet. Even more, mobile phone users have the possibility of creating their own widgets. At this point, the current WidSet library contains more than 1500 widgets, as to comply with any type of information needs. Moreover, WidSets works on more than 300 mobile phones.

WidSets is a free application that requires costs only for the time spent using the mobile Internet services, depending on the teleoperator. All that anyone needs to do in order to start using this service is to sign up on the WidSets site. From that point on, he can download any type of widgets he wants, from highly rated providers, including Wikipedia, ebay, BBC News, sudoku, Private Chat and digg.
