It won’t come with a Samsung Exynos chipset after all

A few days ago, ZUK CEO Chang Cheng revealed via Weibo that he was pleased with the performance of Exynos 8890 on the ZUK Z2 smartphone. The information was perceived as confirmation that the upcoming smartphone was going to feature Samsung’s chipset. However, ZUK has just released the first teaser for the ZUK Z2 and it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon logo up front.

The teaser posted in GizmoChina shows that the company has taken another direction in the case of ZUK Z2 and decided to go with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets, instead of Samsung’s Exynos 8890, which are found in Samsung's S7 and S7 Edge flagships.

The poster also reveals interesting details regarding the upcoming phone, especially that ZUK is marketing the smartphone as a small screen flagship. Unlike the ZUK Z2 Pro, which comes with a 5.2-inch screen, the ZUK Z2 will have a smaller display of 5 inches. Secondly, the poster reveals that the launch event will be held on May 31 in Beijing, China.

ZUK Z2 might come in two variants

However, some rumors say that since the CEO teased the presence of Exynos 8890 SoC on the upcoming ZUK Z2, it could mean that the company might release two variants of the phone. The low-end variant would come with a Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor while the top-end might incorporate Samsung’s Exynos chip. These are just rumors at this point, but it won’t be long until the company unveils the smartphone and sheds light on its specs.

There are few details on the upcoming ZUK Z2, but rumors say that it might come with USB Type C port and 2.5D display. Screen size could reach 4.7 inches and 1080p resolution, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Rear camera could have 13MP, with 8MP in the front. Battery capacity could reach 4100 mAh, more than enough to keep the phone’s lights on.

In addition, pictures of the upcoming ZUK Z1 in white were recently leaked online, but they don’t reveal anything about the display size or even the specs, and not even the rear camera is visible. Still, it won’t be long until the company officially launches the phone.
