14 DAY TRIAL // Here is something strange that you don't see every day in the smartphone business. It appears that ZTE plans to launch a mid-range Android smartphone that lacks rear-facing camera.
In fact, the smartphone does not seem to have any front or back cameras. That's rather weird considering the rest of the handset's specs, which are not that low.
According to a new report, the smartphone has been recently spotted at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission. It's known as ZTE S3003, but that's most likely not the name that will be used when it goes official.
We also know that ZTE S3003 will be launched in China initially, where it will probably be priced in the entry-level range considering its specs.
Speaking of which, the listing at TENAA confirms that the ZTE S3003 sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and 294ppi (pixel per inch) density.
There's no mention of platform yet
Unfortunately, there's no telling what operating system the device will run. It's probably Android Lollipop that will come preloaded on board the S3003, but there's no mention of it at TENAA yet.
On the inside, the device is equipped with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded via microSD card slot.
ZTE's affordable smartphone is only 7.4mm thin and weighs only 117g (battery included). It also features TD-LTE support, but there's no mention of dual-SIM connectivity, though it's very possible that it will offer that feature too.
Other connectivity options might include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS support, but FM Radio and 3.5mm audio jack might be available as well.
We don't expect the S3003 to be available in too many countries, but since this is just another affordable smartphone, we don't think you'll be missing too much, especially considering that it lacks some basic features, like cameras.
