Back in August this year, we reported that ZTE was trying to find ways to meet consumer needs and launched Project CSX. The initiative allowed ZTE fans to send in suggestions of features for a new phone, while helping the company develop a handset that would meet their needs and expectations.

And so ZTE Hawkeye was born. The company has just announced that it will name the phone that resulted from Project CSX the ZTE Hawkeye. The moniker was picked from 540 name submissions from consumers all around the world.

ZTE Hawkeye is already available for funding on Kickstarter for a discounted price of just $199. “Project CSX has been a groundbreaking process and the Hawkeye device sets the stage for us in 2017,” said Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA. “As we move forward with this smartphone, we’ll look to continue to integrate consumers every step of the way.”

ZTE Hawkeye comes with eye tracking technology

One of the main features on the upcoming phone is the eye-tracking technology, which would allow the phone to recognize eye movement to automatically scroll up and down or left and right on pages. Voice commands are also available for navigating between pages.

Another interesting feature is the phone’s ability to stick to walls and surfaces using the self-adhesive case. This would allow the device to be mounted on a vertical surface, allowing users to watch videos while brushing their teeth or putting on makeup.

Aside from this, the phone will be made available unlocked with 2 SIM slots for multiple band support, including LTE 4G bands in North America. It will have a 5.5-inch FHD display, dual-camera setup with zoom capabilities on the back, Hi-Fi audio, and a fingerprint sensor. It will draw power from a large battery with quick charging capabilities and feature expandable memory.

ZTE has stated that the phone will run the latest Android Nougat version. ZTE Hawkeye is set to ship in September 2017, but the date is subject to change.
