14 DAY TRIAL // Google is expected to release the Android Wear 2.0 platform later today, but the new OS won't come alone. Two smartwatches built by LG will be introduced as well: LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style.
Both should go on sale a few days later for $350 and $250, respectively. The good news is the two LG smartwatches won't be the only ones to bring Android Wear 2.0 to mass market. Many other companies have already announced they will launch wearable devices powered by the new OS in the coming months.
ZTE is one of the companies that haven't made any announcements yet, but it is expected to launch an Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch very soon.
The first image of the so-called ZTE Quartz has just been leaked by VentureBeat via Evan Blass, as proof that the Chinese company is indeed readying a smartwatch.
Cellular connectivity, but no touch display
Unfortunately, the image of the circular smartwatch does not come with too many details regarding its specs. Thanks to its listing at Bluetooth SIG, we know the ZTE Quartz will feature 3G cellular connectivity, which is likely to provide users with the option to take and make calls. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options are included as well.
Design-wise, there's not much we can tell other than the fact that this is a circular-style smartwatch with a rubber stripe that can be changed. Perhaps ZTE will introduce a couple of different color stripes to go along with the smartwatch.
Rumor has it that ZTE Quartz could be announced later this month at Mobile World Congress 2017 trade fair. The Chinese company has already printed many of the needed promotional materials, so it would make sense for ZTE to unveil its smartwatch with the first major opportunity.
In the meantime, we're expecting Google to announce Android Wear 2.0 and its first smartwatches later today, so stay tuned for more on this one.
