The ZTE Axon is currently available only in the US

ZTE just announced the premium Axon smartphone model in the US last week. The device offers quite high-end specifications and is available for the attractive price tag of $449 / €415 unlocked.

The phone is currently up for pre-order in the States and we also know that it will make its way to Canada, but that doesn’t mean the Axon will not make it into other markets as well. Actually, a version of the handset has just been approved by China’s TEENA agency as model ZTE A2015.

While most of the specs concur with those of the US version of the handset, the Axon that popped up on the Chinese website has a major notable difference - it harbors a fingerprint scanner. It’s pretty fair to assume at this point that this particular variant will be sold in ZTE’s home court, China.

If you missed the scoop on the ZTE Axon last week, this is as good a place as any to remind you that the phone boasts a 5.5-inch display with QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels).

The ZTE Axon is another Snapdragon 810-touting smartphone

Pumping power under the hood is a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 810 processor working hand in hand with 4GB of RAM, which is characteristic of high-end smartphones. ZTE also throws in 32GB of internal storage, but sadly there’s no microSD card slot on board for memory expansion.

In the photography department, the ZTE Axon is quite interesting. On the back live not one but two cameras, one of the 13MP variety and the other of 2MP capacity. With their power combined, the phone is able to offer unique pre- and post-editing effects. For example, one can re-adjust the focus on an image after the photo has already been snapped.

What’s more, users of the ZTE Axon will be able to have manual controls over settings such as white balance, ISO and shutter speed.

The phone also features an 8MP front-facing camera and a hefty 3,000 mAh battery. It runs the latest in terms of software, meaning Android 5.1 Lollipop. But when the time comes, ZTE will probably want to update the Axon to Android M.
