The company wants to compete against Google and Microsoft

The adoption of Zoom’s services has skyrocketed this year, and it’s all because of obvious reasons. People were forced to worked remotely, and solutions like Zoom allowed them to remain productive even from the safety of their own homes.

This is something that happened to Microsoft Teams as well, with the last months bringing a massive growth in the number of daily active users.

Zoom has noticed the opportunity to grow even bigger, so the company has set new ambitions that could make it a strong rival to Google and Microsoft.

Investing in new apps

And according to a recent report, what Zoom was to do next is invest in more productivity apps, with an email client and a calendar tool currently in the queue.

By the looks of things, the email platform is already in development, and according to the cited source, it’s going to be a web-based email service that users would be provided with starting next year. At this point, however, there’s no certain ETA for this product, though a preview will almost certainly land in 2021, it seems.

The calendar app, on the other hand, is only an idea that Zoom is still exploring, but it looks like the company is very committed to bringing it to the market as well. On the other hand, there’s just a small chance to see this app go live next year.

For the time being, however, it’s pretty clear that the changing market has positioned Zoom as a stronger alternative to Google and Microsoft, and the company is now trying everything that’s possible to further continue this trend. Whether or not the whole thing would work after the pandemic comes to an end is something that remains to be seen, especially because these products could be in an advanced development stage by then.
