If Zack Snyder was thinking he would be ditching the comic book movie genre to pursue other interests soon, he was wrong: not only is he tied to the first 2 “Justice League” movies from Warner Bros., in addition to the upcoming “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but he’s also in talks with HBO for a new project.

Snyder directed “Watchmen” in 2009, a movie that was visually stunning but flawed, which failed to make an impression at the box office. Still, it was his first foray in the genre, and it showed that he had potential.

HBO wants to bring “Watchmen” to the small screen and they want Snyder on board, Variety reports. If the deal goes through, it would mean Snyder is about to make his transition to television.

“Preliminary discussions regarding ‘Watchmen’ have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place,” HBO tells the trade publication, confirming the news.

For the time being, no other details are known about the project. No one knows if the story will be the one from the movie or a different one, if there’s a script or an ideal cast, or the estimated air date. But when “Watchmen” comes out, it will also mark HBO’s first comic book-based release.

Variety says that Warner Bros., which owns DC Entertainment and thus the Watchmen rights, will also be involved in the new series.
