If you’re an Android user, you probably heard of YouTube Vanced already. As one very convenient way to watch YouTube with zero ads, YouTube Vanced rapidly became a must-have app for millions of Android users out there.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out the reason that makes YouTube Vanced get the ax. And all it takes is a look at its feature lineup.

The app not only allows users to watch YouTube videos with no ads, but it also offered various features, such as background playback support, on Android devices. Such capabilities are only available for YouTube Premium subscribers, so in other words, YouTube Vanced offered for free what others offer for a fee.

The current version continues to work

The dev team working on YouTube Vanced confirmed the app is going dark, explaining that the download links would soon be removed. The existing version of the app continues to work, but on the other hand, it could be killed off any day now.

“Vance has been discontinued. In the coming days, the download links will be taken down. The Discord server, Telegram chat, and subreddit will stay for the time being. We know this is not something you wanted to hear, but it’s something we need to do. We want to thank you for all the support over the years,” the team said, adding the existing version will continue to work.

Google hasn’t said anything about any potential action against YouTube Vanced, but it’ll certainly be interesting to see if the other apps on the market and offering similar functionality are going to have a similar fate.

For the time being, YouTube Vanced, one of the most popular Android apps is being discontinued, and keep in mind the existing version still works but could be blocked anytime soon.
