Google's answer to Twitch is called YouTube Gaming, a service that was officially announced back in June. The streaming service was launched in August, but the application did not allow users to stream mobile games.

The good news is with today's update, YouTube Gaming application will allow Android users to stream mobile game from their smartphones and tablets.

Although both Android and iOS versions of YouTube Gaming have been updated this week, only the Android application received the ability to stream mobile games.

The iOS application got better search navigation by remembering the user's previous searches, the option to see the number of current live streams for games in one's collection and the ability to import subscriptions at any time using the “Import from YouTube” option from the Settings menu.

You can only stream mobile games on Lollipop devices

However, with YouTube Gaming for Android, users will be able to live stream or record mobile games, as well as host their stream with the device's selfie camera and record their commentary with the phone's microphone.

It's worth mentioning that these features are only compatible with devices that are powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop or newer.

The update also adds Fan Funding, which allows users to support their favorite creators with tips ($). The video bookmarking with Watch Later has been made easier. The update should also enhance the speed with which users discover live streams for games in their collection.

Obviously, some other performance improvements and bug fixes have been implemented as well, but no additional details on any of them have been provided yet.

You can now download YouTube Gaming for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.1 and up.

For iOS users, the application can be downloaded for free via App Store. It should run smoothly on all devices powered by iOS 7.0 or later.
