PoGo developers warn that you could get your account banned

Pokemon Go is not yet available on Windows phones (and the chances are that it’ll never be, given the fact that Niantic doesn’t seem to be in any way interested in making this happen), but thanks to some skilled developers in the Windows community, a third-party port allowed users to play the game on Windows 10 Mobile.

Called PoGo UWP, the third-party Pokemon Go client stopped working recently, following an update released by Niantic to its API that locks out unofficial apps, so Windows phone users lost pretty much their only option to play the game.

You might get banned

Although the dev team is working to bring back PoGo on Windows phones, a warning posted on GitHub recommends users to avoid installing the app right now because Niantic could very well ban their account in case it detects that they’re not running the real Pokemon Go app.

“Please do not install any builds that are not officially released at the link above. We currently are not releasing new builds for a reason, which currently is: We don’t have the right tools to spoof your device like an Apple device,” the warning reads.

“If you download and run any non-dev generated appx, your account is being flagged and there is a high chance you’ll get your Pokemon Go account banned. Please also do not ask for new builds. We’ll release them when we’re comfortable releasing them, both in terms of stability & making sure it’s safe for your account.”

For the moment, the same warning applies not only to PoGo but to pretty much any other third-party Pokemon Go client out there running on all mobile platforms. Niantic doesn’t seem to be willing to let unofficial ports of the game connect to its servers, so it tries to shut them down and at the same time ban trainers who use them.

Unfortunately, there’s still no timing for when it will be safe to reinstall PoGo app on Windows phones, so right now, it’s better to just wait a little bit longer because, who knows, maybe Niantic has a sudden change of heart and releases Pokemon Go on Windows 10 Mobile.
