Earlier today, Microsoft rolled out an update for the OneDrive client for iOS, and now it turns out that the company has pushed new improvements for Skype as well.
The VoIP messaging client, which is already experiencing quite an impressive success on iOS despite the integration of FaceTime, has reached version 6.17.1 and brings several new features that will definitely come in handy to iPhone and iPad users.
First and foremost, Microsoft has made it easier to add new friends, because you now only have to open your Contacts, tap the option that reads “Invite friends to Skype” and simply select whom you want to join. This new version also includes improvements to voice and video call quality and brings a fix for a bug that prevented some users from automatically signing in.
Skype and FaceTime
Skype and FaceTime provide similar functionality on Apple’s devices, but FaceTime has one big advantage: it’s baked right into the operating system, so it comes in handier for iOS users to chat with their contacts with an integrated solution.
And yet, Skype has improved significantly lately and is available on a wide array of platforms and devices, whereas FaceTime can only be used on Apple devices. Skype also offers excellent audio and video quality, although there are users who claim that FaceTime offers a smoother experience on devices.
In the meantime, Microsoft keeps improving Skype with new features and options on all platforms, including iOS, so these updates certainly come in handy to everyone. Of course, iOS fans are recommended to download and install the new update as soon as possible, especially if they are frequent users of the Skype app on iPhones or iPads.
