And Apple stops signing iOS 10.2, making downgrade harder

Luca Todesco has just posted a new beta version of his Yalu jailbreak tool for iOS 10.2, adding support for new models. It’s worth mentioning, however, that the iPhone 7 is not yet listed as compatible.

According to the official release notes, this updated jailbreak tool supports all iOS 10 devices, except for the iPhone 7 but including the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, iPhone SE, and the iPad Pro.

What’s important to note, however, is that this jailbreak only works on the base iOS 10.2 version and not on 10.2.1, which Apple released a couple of weeks ago. Furthermore, the company has started beta development of 10.3, with a first early version already shipped to developers and public testers.

iOS 10.2 no longer signed

Earlier today, Apple has also stopped signing iOS 10.2, which basically means that downgrading from iOS 10.2.1 is no longer possible. In other words, if you’re still on iOS 10.2 and planning to jailbreak, you shouldn’t update your device by any means because it would then be impossible to go back to the base version and unlock the iPhone.

As far as iPhone 7 users are concerned, while the Yalu jailbreak tool does not support Apple’s latest phone model, the Semi Jailbreak method comes to the rescue for both iOS 10.2 and even 10.2.1. Users, however, should note that this is just a partial jailbreak that does not bring all the advantages of a full unlock, so while you can install themes and connect to a limited Cydia, there’s no access to the system root files of iOS.

And it goes without saying that users who are planning to jailbreak their iOS devices should have in mind the typical blah blah blah, as doing this can brick iPhones beyond the repair point. iPhone 7 users are also expected to get better support in future updates of jailbreak apps, and this shouldn’t take too long to happen.
