Yahoo has been making some big changes lately, as the company decided to shut down its Messenger desktop application in order to focus on the web, Android, and iOS versions. Now it seems that it has also launched an app for iOS. It's called Radar and works as a smart travel guide that comes with a chatbot-like assistant.

Today, Yahoo has launched a new iOS app dubbed Radar, which acts as a smart travel guide and offers lots of recommendations and suggestions that users will find quite helpful when planning their next trip. The app works in conjunction with Yahoo Mail and can be used for pulling up trip itineraries, reservations, and other travel information.

Users simply need to sign in with their Yahoo Mail email address, and Radar will organize information like flight, hotel, and rental car confirmation receipts in the inbox.

It could prove quite useful at the airport or hotel, as users would no longer need to search through their packed inbox in order to find the information that they need in a timely manner. This feature also makes the application competitive against other similar apps like Google Now.

Moreover, Yahoo’s Radar application will collect user reviews and travel tips from major travel websites out there, including TripAdvisor. The application will also come with some assistant features, such as check-in reminders and notifications for flights.

Yahoo has mentioned that users must sign in with their Yahoo Mail address, but it has also specified that Radar can also link to Gmail, Outlook, AOL or Hotmail addresses. The app is currently available only in the US, in the App Store, and there’s currently no info on whether and when it will be available for Android devices as well.

Yahoo’s initiative to bring some change in company products is laudable, but with the abundance of travel apps out there, including Foursquare, Expedia, Airbnb and Trip Advisor, it’s hard to say how Yahoo Radar will perform when it comes to the number of users that it could attract.
