It may take months before the framework is released

Android smartphones offer users lots of ways in which they can customize their experience, and if they wish to take a step further, users can root their phones and make all sorts of tweaks. Custom ROMs allow Android users to make some changes, but Xposed Framework gives them more advanced tools to work with.

Xposed Framework is a base system that lets users download modules for making all sorts of changes to the phone’s UI. Users can add the three dot menu to every app installed on the phone, enable the full 20MP sensor for Superior Auto in Sony cameras, or make all sorts of tweaks to their phones.

Users can install individual packages also known as modules, for adding any features that they want to their current ROM. After rooting the Android phone, users can install Xposed Framework and download whichever module they wish to work with.

It might take some time until the new Xposed version arrives

Xposed is constantly updated to meet compatibility requirements for each new Android version, a process which can take some time, depending on what changes Google brings in new Android OS versions. Xposed’s developer rovo89 took to XDA developers forums to update users on the status of the new Xposed version, according to Android Authority.

Apparently, the Xposed Framework version for Android Nougat is currently under development, but it’s difficult to say when it will be completed. Google brought a series of changes to Nougat, most importantly regarding the way the new Android OS version handles app installations.

The process is faster, which is good for end-users, but it will take “hundreds of hours” for rovo89 to adapt Xposed to support the new feature. Considering that he’s the only developer working on this project and that he has other commitments as well, the new Xposed version might be completed at the end of this year at best or until the middle of May next year at the latest.
