When it comes to battery life, device manufacturers worldwide are investing aggressively on two different fronts.

First and foremost, they are looking into ways to get more room inside phones and tablets, and this, in turn, means that the battery capacity overall can also be increased.

And then, they are trying to develop new recharging technology that can juice up our devices much faster, so no matter the size of the battery, it should be restored as fast as possible.

Xiaomi is ready to set a new record in this regard, as the company is getting ready to introduce what’s being called Super Charge Turbo.

Just 17 minutes for a full charge

Basically, what this new tech comes down to is a fast charging system that uses up to 100W power to reduce the time needed for your smartphone to stay plugged. How much? According to Lin Bin, who is the co-founder and president of Xiaomi, it would take only 17 minutes to charge a 4,000 mAh battery.

In a video that he posted online today, Bin compares Super Charge Turbo with another super-fast charging system from Oppo and called SuperVOOC Flash Charge. On the other hand, Oppo needs 35 minutes to fully charge a 3,700 mAh battery, so in 17 minutes, it only provides some 65 percent of battery.

By the looks of things, Xiaomi is set to unveil the new technology as soon as this week, though there’s a good chance only future models would support it. Dedicated hardware is almost certainly required, and a 100W charger coupled with a new high-speed USB cable is without a doubt necessary.

Xiaomi is also the company that launched the world’s fastest wireless charging with 20W output on the Mi 9 flagship, so it makes sense for the Chinese firm to invest in wired technology as well.
