Xiaomi is working on a successor to the highly popular Mi 5 smartphone, one that will come in multiple variants and options. Xiaomi Mi 6 specs already leaked online and some details surfaced recently, mainly regarding its chipset and design.

Kevin Wang, an analyst from China, says that Xiaomi will launch a special edition of the Xiaomi Mi 6, which will be made out of ceramic, similar to the company’s Mi MIX. Production output for ceramic is quite low, which doesn’t discourage Xiaomi, seeing how premium models sell in fewer units.

The other Xiaomi Mi 6 models will be made out of metal and glass, similar to Mi 5 smartphones. The new device is expected to launch before the end of March or April and ship in a few variants.

Snapdragon 835 and Snapdragon 821, depending on the variant

Reports regarding the Xiaomi Mi 6 are plenty, but uncertain. Some say that all variants will run the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor, while others say that a Snapdragon 821 variant will be offered due to low production yields for the latest Qualcomm chipset.

Nonetheless, the Mi 6 is expected to come with a 5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) display, while the premium ceramic model might have a QHD (2560 x 1440) screen. RAM capacity will vary between 4GB and 6GB, while multiple internal storage variants will be offered.

It’s worth mentioning that the Snapdragon 835 chipset won’t be underclocked, which means that it will hopefully deliver a powerful performance. The Mi 6 will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, possibly with MIUI 8 on top.

Details about the phone’s camera have surfaced recently, revealing that Mi 6 might be equipped with Sony’s advanced IMX400 sensor, while the higher-end model might have a dual-camera setup on the back. The camera sensor is featured on the recently announced Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs. Take these rumored specs with a grain of salt, but with such powerful components, Xiaomi must make a compromise to keep the phone’s price down.
