14 DAY TRIAL // Only a few days have passed since Xiaomi launched the Mi Band 2 fitness tracker and it seems that the company is already working on its first smartwatch, said to be released in the second half of this year. These are some ambitious plans, considering that the Chinese company will be competing against some very strong competitors in this market.
A report by GizmoChina reveals that Xiaomi is currently working on its first smartwatch and the CEO of Huami, the company that manufactured the Mi Bands, confirmed that the smartwatch will see the light of day in the second half of 2016.
The report also shows that the smartwatch’s power of consumption should be similar to Garmin wearable devices. Finally, two price tags were revealed, $152 and $243, which means that two variants of the smartwatches could hit the market.
Two variants of the Xiaomi smartwatch could be released
The CEO of Huami stated that the Xiaomi smartwatch already exists, which means that there won’t be long until an official announcement would be made.
There’s little information on the upcoming Mi smartwatch, but it’s expected to come with many more features compared to the Mi Band 2. The fitness tracker was launched just a few days ago for $22 and featured a 0.42-inch OLED display, an ADI accelerometer and IP67 certification.
It also comes with an impressive 20-day battery and optical heart rate sensor. It also has a 0.05mm ultra-thin button and comes with Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.
This is not the first time that we’re hearing about Xiaomi working on a smartwatch, the rumor first started last year, after Xiaomi branched out into several new markets.
