There's no doubt about it, Xiaomi is one of the largest handset makers in China. The company's Android smartphones are selling like hot cakes due to their stunning price / performance ratio.

In a statement cited by a Chinese source, Xiaomi's operations director confirmed on September 5 that the company sold no less than 1.5 million units since its launch in mid-August, XiaomiToday reports.

However, that shouldn't be surprising since Xiaomi reported sales of 800,000 Redmi Note 2 units in the first 12 hours from its launch. This means that the company might have just surpassed the 2 million Redmi Note 2 units sold milestone by now.

This is the best record for the Chinese handset maker, which is also expected to reach 10 million Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 units sold by the end of this year.

Xiaomi's achievement is quite impressive since the Redmi Note 2 is only available for purchase in China for the moment. Once the smartphone is launched worldwide, it's very possible that the 10 million sales mark will be achieved much earlier.

The smartphone might be more expensive when launched in other countries

The Redmi Note 2 16GB is now available for purchase for just $125 (€110), while the 32GB model costs around $155 (€137) outright.

Considering the smartphone comes with more than decent specs, these prices are the main reason the Redmi Note 2 is selling so well in China.

The smartphone is equipped with a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 2GB of RAM, and either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory.

Also, it comes with a large 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution. On the back, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 packs a 13-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera.

It's also worth mentioning that the smartphone is powered by a 3,060 mAh battery and ships with Xiaomi's MIUI 7 right out of the box.
