The smartphone is smaller than its predecessor

The Redmi Note 2 is one of the highly anticipated Android smartphones to be released by Chinese handset maker Xiaomi.

The device was certified at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission, earlier this year, or so we thought, since the Redmi Note 2 is still not available for purchase.

Usually, it takes a few weeks for a smartphone that's been certified by China's equivalent of FCC to be officially unveiled, which did not happen with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.

This means that the previous smartphone we thought to be Redmi Note 2 was in fact a completely different device that's probably already available on the market.

However, according to a new report, the real Redmi Note 2 might have been spotted at TENAA recently, which means an official announcement is imminent.

The smartphone listed at the Chinese regulatory commission has been confirmed to feature a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display of unknown resolution.

Slimmer and smaller than the Redmi Note

This means that the Redmi Note 2 will have a similar display as the predecessor, but the size of the phone has been slightly reduced.

The new Redmi Note 2 measures only 152.05 x 76.2 x 8.05 mm, whereas the older model was 154 x 78.7 x 9.45 mm.

Another piece of information that's been confirmed at TENAA is the fact that Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 will be powered by a 3,020 mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than Redmi Note's 3,100 mAh (3,200 mAh) battery.

Apart from that, no other details have been mentioned in the filing at TENAA, but previous rumors claim the Redmi Note 2 will be equipped with a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor or a MediaTek MT6795 CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory.

It's also worth mentioning that there will be two versions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 launched, but the differences between them are a mystery for the moment.
