Great news for Xiaomi fans anxious to get their hands on the company's next Redmi Note smartphone, as CEO Lei Jun confirmed the device would be officially unveiled on June 29.

It's unclear whether or not the smartphone will go on sale on the same day, but according to a new report Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun stated on its Weibo account that the successor of the Redmi Note would be launched on June 29.

Since there are only a couple of days remaining until the alleged launch of the Redmi Note 2, it's worth noting that the Chinese company is also expected to reveal its flagship smartphone, the Mi5, later this year.

Until then though, Xiaomi will launch one or more mid-range Android smartphones, including the Redmi Note 2 which, judging by the rumored specs, looks more like a high-end device.
