As we're getting close to the end of February, the hype in the smartphone industry is rising since the major players in the market are expected to unveil some of their most important products for the first half of the year.

Xiaomi is mostly known in China, but recently its devices have started to gain traction in other countries as well. India has become one of Xiaomi's most profitable markets, though many would agree that the company only brings here the devices that didn't sell well in China.

Either way, it's safe to say that Xiaomi is one of the world's largest handset makers, so the company's upcoming launch event should be treated as one of utmost importance.

We reported in the last couple of days that many sources confirmed the Mi5 would be officially unveiled on February 24, but if you had any doubts, here is another piece of information that should put all those doubts to rest.

Xiaomi's Global VP, Hugo Barra, has just confirmed the Mi5 will indeed be announced on February 24. The information comes along with a teaser that shows the number 5 and the following tagline: “All you ever imagined, and more.”

No details on specs have been confirmed

Aside from the announcement date, Xiaomi's official did not reveal any other details regarding the phone's specs, price or availability, but we already know quite a few things about the upcoming flagship device.

For example, Xiaomi Mi5 has been confirmed to pack a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor inside, coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM.

Also, the smartphone will sport a 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that should support Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

A cheaper version of the Mi5 might come with a full HD (1080p) display, but the information hasn't been confirmed yet.

The Mi5 will pack a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera and a decent 3,600 mAh battery. Xiaomi's flagship is likely to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and MIUI 7 on top.
