The Mi 6 could be world's first Snapdragon 835 smartphone

While everyone expects Samsung's Galaxy S8, not necessarily to purchase one, but at least to see what the South Korean company has decided to include inside its powerful flagship, other handset makers are readying their flagships as well.

Xiaomi Mi 6 should be one of the flagships to compete with the Galaxy S8, but most likely that will only happen in China. Xiaomi doesn't sell smartphones internationally, though it's present in a few other markets too, like India.

We reported a few days ago that the Mi 6 might have been delayed into April due to the fact that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset won't be ready until then, or the stock is too thin.

However, Chinese analyst Kevin Wang Diary claims that even if the available supply for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset is too thin, the Mi 6 would still not be delayed as Xiaomi has already started to receive its own stock of the new chip.

After the analyst posted his theory on Weibo, the Chinese alternative to Facebook, new information has surfaced online suggesting the Mi 6 will in fact be unveiled earlier than expected.

Is this just a marketing stunt?

While previous reports claimed that Xiaomi Mi 6 could be announced at MWC 2017 in late February, sources familiar with the company's plans now say the smartphone will be introduced on February 6.

However, that doesn't mean the smartphone will be available for purchase in early February. Xiaomi probably wanted to use a marketing stunt and has decided that announcing the Mi 6 before Samsung's Galaxy S8 will make it the world's first smartphone to pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor.

It remains to be seen how soon Xiaomi will be able to release the Mi 6 on the market since just the announcement won't help boost sales too much.

One thing is sure, everyone is scheduling their launch events around Samsung Galaxy S8's announcement.
