The company was originally blacklisted in January

Huawei was banned in the United States back in mid-May 2019, but since then, the American government has been going after several other companies which officials claimed they had ties with the Chinese authorities.

The latest big tech name to be blacklisted is Xiaomi, with the company added to the Entity List back in January when the U.S. government decided to flag it as a Communist Chinese Military Company (CCMC).

Supposed to come into effect on March 15, the ban has now been suspended by US Federal Judge Contreras, who ruled in the favor of Xiaomi and decided to temporarily halt the original decision of the White House administration.

Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi is delighted with this decision, explaining that it only offers products for consumers, without any ties with governments.

“The Company reiterates that it is a widely held, publicly traded, independently managed corporation that offers consumer electronics products solely for civilian and commercial use,” Xiaomi said in a press release.

Fight against the CCMC designation

Furthermore, the Chinese firm says it’s now ready to fight against the CCMC designation, asking the court to permanently remove it.

“The Company believes that the decisions of designating it as a Chinese Communist Military Company are arbitrary and capricious, and the judge agrees with it. The Company will continue to request that the court declare the designation unlawful and to permanently remove the designation. Xiaomi is a young and energetic technology company. Over the years, the Company has offered amazing consumer electronics products such as smartphones and smart TVs with honest prices to consumers all over the world. The Company is committed to working with our global partners to let everyone in the world enjoy a better life through innovative technology,” it continued.

Of course, no good news comes on the Huawei front, as the Chinese company remains banned in the United States.
