The XCOM series doesn't need any introduction, but the all-new standalone title XCOM: Chimera Squad needs one since it's a bit unusual for the series. Revealed earlier today, XCOM: Chimera Squad is an indie game that will be released digitally for PC on April 24. The game will cost just €10 / $10 until the end of the month, but starting May 1, its price will go up to €20 / $20.

The game is set five years after the events of XCOM 2 when humans, hybrids, and aliens are now working together to forge a civilization of cooperation and co-existence. Obviously, not all of Earth's inhabitants support the interspecies alliance, hence the need for a special force to keep the order.

City 31, the region where all humans, hybrids, and aliens live in peace, is opposed by mysterious groups whose agendas threaten to shatter this delicate interspecies alliance. Chimera Squad, the elite force of human, hybrid and alien agents must destroy the underground threats driving the city toward chaos.

With XCOM: Chimera Squad, we felt there were exciting gameplay opportunities yet to be discovered within the XCOM universe. Gameplay like Breach Mode, interleaved turn order, and the introduction of agents as fully fleshed-out characters will revolutionize how the game plays while still retaining the combat experience that makes the XCOM series so loved by gaming communities around the world,” said Mark Nauta, Lead Designer at Firaxis Games.

In XCOM: Chimera Squad, players will get to meet 11 new agents, each with their own distinct personality and tactical abilities. More importantly, developers promise re-envisioned tactical combat, as missions are now structured as a series of short encounters, keeping the action intense and unpredictable.

Also, the game features a brand-new Breach Mode where players must strategically assign agents to different entry points and coordinate their assault plans with a range of Breach-specific skills.

Last but not least, players must manage the operations of a high-tech HQ outside combat, where they must prioritize competing tasks, investigations and agent assignments.
