Video game developer Firaxis is busy offering details about the new elements being introduced in XCOM 2, and this time around it gives gamers more information about the Specialist character class and their allocated Gremlin battle drone.

The official site explains that, since the aliens have managed to capture Earth and defeat almost all opposition, they have managed to evolve their tech, but the resistance has also made an effort to keep up when it comes to research and development.

Firaxis states, "Specialists are masters of tech, and while anyone can hack terminals and turrets in XCOM 2, this class has a far greater affinity for such actions. But the real key to a Specialist’s success is how he/she chooses to employ the Gremlin - an unmanned support drone."

The drone can be used to attack enemies directly to deal damage and to try and make sure that they are distracted.

The Gremlin can also hack enemy tech remotely, and there are options to buff allies and make them better soldiers for a limited time.

One of the themes of XCOM 2 is player choice, and gamers can make the Specialist either a powerful assault unit that can deal damage to enemy forces or a support who uses his drone to make sure that allies can perform under pressure.

XCOM 2 will offer more ways to tackle challenges than the original

There are five classes in the new turn-based strategy title, with a mysterious one that Firaxis is not yet willing to talk about.

They will be required in order to make sure that gamers will be able to deal with the new enemies that are introduced, both the Advent collaborationist human forces and new species or upgrades to already existing aliens.

The new game will also have entirely procedurally generated levels and the Artificial Intelligence that powers the enemy forces has new ways to move around them to surprise gamers.

Because gamers will start as a rebel force, there are more types of missions to choose from and more mechanics linked to the new movable XCOM base of operations.

XCOM 2 will be launched in November of this year and will only be delivered on the PC.
