There are no balancing changes in this patch

Almost two weeks after the launch of XCOM 2 for the PC platform, the developers have finally released the first patch.

The gaming community is used to seeing bugs in the XCOM games, so when the latest version launched with quite a few, people weren’t all that surprised. On the other hand, they will be surprised to see that the fixes are not exactly for the things that have been noted by the community.

The developers from Firaxis focused more on the technical aspect of the game, and they haven’t touched anything related to balancing. One of the issues that always pop up in discussions is the fact that there seems to be a disparity between the chances of success for a hit and the actual result.

First XCOM 2 hotfix is here

XCOM 2 is not terribly optimized, despite the fact that it was launched only on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. There is a big difference between how Enemy Within performed and the current iteration, but maybe the driver and game updates will improve the quality.

“This update fixes issues causing known crashes and includes some performance improvements. Saves affected by the crashes can be recovered and continued after installing the update. We will continue our patch support over the coming months with additional fixes and performance updates,” the developers explained on Steam.

According to the changelog, players should now be able to progress to scan in the Geoscape after completing the Resistance Communications research via Tutorial (saves will be affected), it’s now possible to load saves with a Chryssalid Cocoon, Texture Streaming has been improved to assist with periodic frame spikes, the preview voice button for a modded voice pack no longer crashes, and the 8x MSAA has been removed from Max Settings.

This is not a big update, but it should take care of some performance issues. As usual, launch Steam and allow the client to automatically download the patch. You can also check our in-depth review for XCOM 2.
