XCOM 2 is out and it's a success for Firaxis, but it could have been better if not for some pesky performance issues experienced by the community. The developers are working to correct them as soon as possible.

If a game is good, the community doesn't really care about performance problems, unless they are really obvious or if they affect a large number of people. In fact, most fans of the franchise expected to have trouble with XCOM 2. Despite appearances, the game is very complex, but it's very well balanced.

Surprisingly, there weren't any major balancing issues, but the performance problems have been annoyingly enough to be reported by the community. Unfortunately for most players, these are very specific and the developers are having a difficult time in reproducing them, which only means that it will take longer to repair them.

The game was released on February 5 and a single hot-fix update was made available since then. The update took care of some of the pressing problems, but there are plenty of things that need to be repaired.

The lead designer for XCOM 2, Jake Solomon, has talked to the folks over at rockpapershotgun.com and explained that they are fully aware of the issues, but that they are sporadic in nature and really hard to pin down.

“It’s not across the board, the issues are kind of myriad… sporadic. Maybe this is damning on me, but I’m sitting here talking to you now on the laptop I use to play it on, and I didn’t see these issues. We didn’t catch this stuff in compatibility testing. We’re fully, fully accountable for the product in people’s hands, so we certainly take responsibility for it,” Solomon said.

From the looks of it, a new major update for XCOM 2 is being prepared and it will most likely land in the coming weeks.
