Next version of iOS could bring Xcode to the iPad

There was a time when Apple really didn’t believe in the 2-in-1 form factor and, in fact, the company even mocked Microsoft for investing in a tablet that also comes with a keyboard.

Microsoft, however, pushed its entire lineup of Surface devices as the perfect productivity companions both at the office and on the go, and the more these models gained traction, the more Apple understood that the 2-in-1 form factor deserves more attention.

And here’s the iPad Pro becoming one of the best alternatives to Microsoft’s Surface, and according to a recent discovery, the Cupertino-based tech giant wants its own model to further evolve in terms of productivity with the upcoming debut of iOS 14.

iOS 14 expected in the fall, preview coming in June

More specifically, YouTuber and leaker Jon Prosser says Xcode is bundled with iOS 14, which means Apple is working on bringing its coding environment to the iPad with the next major software update.

Creating apps for macOS and iOS could thus become a native thing on the iPad Pro with the debut of iOS 14, and this is something that just makes perfect sense given the direction the company has embraced for the iPad Pro.

iOS 14 is projected to get the go-ahead in September, with a preview scheduled to be demonstrated at the WWDC conference in June. And given WWDC is all about developers, there’s a good chance Apple will also discuss the integration of Xcode in iOS 14 during the event (the entire show will be live-streamed online, without a physical audience this year).

Of course, we should just take this tidbit with a pinch of salt for the time being, but given WWDC is just around the corner, we’re likely to get a confirmation of the whole thing rather sooner than later.
