The team at Microsoft is saying that those who want to take advantage of the currently running temporary price cut for the Xbox One will need to move to secure a home console before April 30 if they want to pick it up for the price of 299 dollars or Euro, which is 50 dollars or Euro lower than the normal one.

The offer went live on March 20 and also makes the device cheaper than the PlayStation 4 from Sony and gamers can pick up a wide array of bundles that feature big recently launched video games like The Division or upcoming ones like Quantum Break.

Microsoft has launched a special TV spot promoting the price cut, which also talks about the array of titles that are offered on the Xbox One and about the fact that the platform is now backwards compatible.

The fact that the special offer is running for about 40 days is a sign that Microsoft really wants to generate a lot of extra sales for its home console, and market watchers will be watching the effect that the cut has on the reported NPD Group numbers for March and April.

It will be interesting to see whether the company will make the price cut a permanent one at some point later in the year.

The PlayStation 4 is over the 36 million sales mark

Sony has not revealed new information about the performance of the home console for some time, and the NPD Group has been showing that the value associated with video games hardware has been dropping during the first few months of the year.

In order to boost the performance of their devices both Sony and Microsoft might choose to make them cheaper during the fall, when sales spike during the Christmas shopping season.

Microsoft has not released official figures about its home console recently, but third-party sources have said that it is a little over the 20 million units mark at the moment.

Rumors are talking about a new PlayStation 4K model that Sony is preparing, which should offer the double GPU power, will be launched before the end of the year and will sell for 499 dollars or Euro.

Microsoft statements have also suggested that the company might want to introduce an upgrade for the Xbox One, although it seems that no official announcements will be made this year because the plan is to introduce a major improvement in quality.
