New data shows the market is declining significantly

New data shared by Canalys reveals the obvious: the tablet market is going down, as the sales have declined by no less than 6.2 percent in the third quarter of this year.

The drop isn’t necessarily surprising. 2020 brought a massive boost for the tablet industry, especially as the planet started working remotely, with sales of pretty much all devices going up substantially.

Now as the world is returning to normal, so do the sales, and tablet manufacturers are obviously the ones to witness the changing trends.

Canalys says Huawei was the company hit the hardest during the third quarter, as its tablet sales fell no more, no less than 41.1 percent. Amazon was the only big company that recorded growth in Q3, as its tablet sales went up 17.9 percent. Lenovo’s tablet sales also went down significantly (-36.6 percent versus the same quarter a year ago).

In case you’re wondering, the number one company in the charts is Apple. The iPad maker, however, sold 14.3 million tablets, down from 15.2 million units in the same quarter a year ago. This represents a drop of 5.6 percent, but it still guarantees a solid lead over runner-up Samsung and the 6.6 million tablets it sold during the quarter.

“The reduced need for tablets in the post-pandemic world has been exacerbated by increased macroeconomic pressure on consumer spending,” said Canalys Analyst Himani Mukka.

“Promotional activity by vendors and retailers, including back-to-school deals, along with rising deployments in the commercial sector, have helped keep shipment volumes at a higher level than before the pandemic. While the tablet market is unlikely to reach the highs it enjoyed in 2020 and 2021 again, the trajectory is more positive than was anticipated a few years ago, and vendors are signaling continued focus on the category.”
