A 10v10 players mode that lasts between 15 and 30 minutes

World War 3, the modern military FPS from developer Farm 51, is getting interesting new content that's been partly developed by the community. A new game mode called Breakthrough is now making its way to World War 3, after extensive testing and numerous tweaks during its time on the PTE servers.

Breakthrough is interesting because the idea for this game mode came directly from the World War 3 community. The folks at Farm 51 tells us that a group of players contacted them to ask if they could set up closed servers to try out an idea for a game mode they felt would fit in the game, complete with directions for anyone willing to participate in tests.

It looks like the idea was great and after a few successful events, Farm 51 decided to take the idea and refine it in a way that would better fit the World War 3 strong teamplay style. The developers say they had plans to include a community game mode since the start of Early Access last year, and this was a perfect match for the team, as Breakthrough takes advantage of World War 3’s playstyle very well and it was a natural fit for the game.

But what is Breakthrough and why Farm 51 found it ideal for their game? As a third game mode currently available in World War 3, Breakthrough fits between Team Deathmatch and Warzone in terms of dynamism and tactical approach to warfare.

In Breakthrough, players are divided into two teams that try to counter each other's actions, with the attacking team trying to destroy radio stations scattered around the map, while the defending team tries to stop them. Radio stations can be destroyed in a variety of ways, with the main option using planted explosive charges to destroy the area.

The main rules for Breakthrough game mode are quite simple. For example, a match lasts between 15 and 30 minutes and players are split equally into two teams (10 vs 10): attackers and defenders. Attackers try to destroy radio stations, while defenders try to stop them. After successful neutralization of radio stations in both adjacent points (A1 and A2, B1 and B2, etc.), the frontline is pushed back.

Another important rule is that defenders must retreat to safety in 60 seconds as they are marked for the attackers during the retreat. If attackers destroy all radio stations, they win, but if at any point defenders stop attackers from destroying radio stations and the timer reaches zero, they win. Finally, players can use all available strikes

If the new game mode has piqued your interest but you don't own the game yet, we're happy to inform you that World War 3 is 33% off on Steam between November 26 and December 3.
