Three people were wounded by a shooter on Tuesday at YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno, California. The attacker took its life before the police got to the scene.

One of YouTube’s employees managed to post on Twitter that an active shooting is happening at YouTube’s headquarters just as it was being shut down. The attacker, Nasim Aghdam, entered a common area and started shooting, injuring three people.

While the police have yet to comment on the motives surrounding the shooting, early reports suggested that she might have targeted a boyfriend that worked for the company. On the other hand, she’s been very upset earlier this year that a change in YouTube’s algorithms caused her channel views to go down.

The suspect is dead

The police took only two minutes to reach YouTube’s headquarters and found the shooter dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Early reports indicated many more casualties, but it seems that the situation didn’t escalate.

San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini held a press conference and indicated that three people were admitted at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital with gunshot wounds. One of the victims is in critical condition. The Chief of Police also explained that a handgun was used in the attack.

Furthermore, the authorities are not treating this as an act of terrorism. Little is known about the attacker, Nasim Aghdam, with the exception of the fact that she posted videos on YouTube. She’s of Iranian origin, but her content doesn’t seem to have anything regarding her country’s politics or religion.

It’s also important to mention that Nasim Aghdam’s YouTube channel has been suspended in the meantime, but that was to be expected.

Furthermore, according to a CBS Los Angeles report, the father of Nasim Aghdam told the police that her daughter has been missing for a few days, and even talked to the authorities about her hatred of YouTube’s latest monetization policies.
