Microsoft Band replacements pretty hard to find these days

Microsoft discontinued the Band activity tracker even though it was such an advanced device, so no third-generation model is expected to launch anytime soon.

On the other hand, the Microsoft Band 2 is still one of the best trackers currently available on the market, with one major drawback: the faulty straps that get torn on the wrist, especially in the case of the most active customers who wear them every day.

If you’re a Microsoft Band 2 buyer, you almost certainly heard about the broken straps and chances are that you already asked for a replacement. And despite what was believed to be a redesign for a more durable strap, the Band 2 is still suffering from the very same issue these days.

The problem is that Microsoft has already abandoned the device, so only the luckiest of us can find a replacement unit these days. So what can you do when the strap gets torn but you can’t get a replacement? You turn to whatever workaround could do the job.

The Sugru workaround

Reddit user Alph1 had the brilliant idea of using Sugru to fix his Microsoft Band 2, and although it’s not the most aesthetic solution, it appears to do its job very well. Sugru becomes super-flexible when it dries, just like rubber, so it covers the area where the strap torn down in a pretty effective manner.

On the other hand, this is just a temporary fix and reapplying is necessary every now and then, but at least it’s an easy way to continue using the Microsoft Band that Microsoft itself abandoned.

For what it’s worth, customers whose Band straps are damaged can go to a Microsoft Store and ask for a replacement, and in case there aren’t any available (which is very likely to be the case given that the product has been retired), they can request a refund or store credit.

Below are some photos of Microsoft Band 2 units suffering from this widespread issue and make sure you look in the photo gallery for the Sugru workaround in action.
