A new maintenance update for the world’s most popular network protocol analyzer, Wireshark, an open-source and cross-platform software used for network troubleshooting, development, and analysis, has arrived today, November 17, 2016.

Wireshark 2.2.2 is here one and a half months after the first point release for the 2.2 series of the application, bringing over 30 security and bug fixes. First of all, it attempts to fix a bunch of vulnerabilities and crashes reported by users in version 2.2.1, such as a Profinet I/O long loop problem, a crash in OpenFlow, AllJoyn, and DCERPC, as well as a DTN infinite loop issue.

Attached at the end of the article is a list of all the bug fixes that landed in the Wireshark 2.2.2 update for the tech-savvy reader. They should improve the overall stability and reliability of the application on all supported platforms, and it also repairs the Windows PortableApps packages, which were susceptible to a DLL hijacking flaw. More details should be found in the official release notes as well.
