Almost 2 years after serious speculation on a sequel to the 1988 cult classic “Beetlejuice” started making the rounds, Winona Ryder is confirming it: “Beetlejuice 2” is definitely happening! And she’s just as excited about it as the fans of the horror comedy must be.

Ryder was on Late Night with Seth Meyers the other night and, among other things, she also discussed the old report that there was a “Beetlejuice” sequel in the works. As you can see in the video below, that is truly the case and she’s now free to say so on the record because director Tim Burton confirmed it first.

Speaking of whom, yes, Burton is coming back for the sequel. “Beetlejuice” could hardly exist without him, seeing how he also helmed the original film, could it?

For the time being, only Burton and Ryder are confirmed for the film, which is listed as “announced” on IMDB. Reports from early 2014 claim that Michael Keaton would also be back, after he said in an interview that it would be “hard” for him to stay away if Burton was in the director’s chair.

On the downside, there is no actual confirmation of the sequel just yet, which is why it doesn’t even have a tentative release date. It’s not enough for a director and 2 members of the original cast to say a sequel is in the works to actually have it made. Because, ultimately, it’s the studio that calls the shots, as it provides financial backing.
