Concept envisions a modern version of Windows Vista

Windows Vista was long considered the most beautiful operating system released by Microsoft, but unfortunately, we all know what happened due to the performance struggles it ended up shipping with.

However, the introduction of a visual overhaul powered by the Aero pack was received with much enthusiasm by users out there, and in many ways, this paved the way for a very successful Windows 7 – an operating system whose appearance was inspired by Windows Vista but which came with most performance problems resolved.

Along with Windows 8, Windows Vista is considered one of Microsoft’s biggest flops, but despite this negative image, many people out there still like its looks.

This is why the concept called Windows Vista 2022 Edition (via Neowin) is such a great idea.

While I’m not going to detail the concept too much because this often comes down to spoilers that ruin the fun of watching the video, I must admit that “the wow is back” fits this work like a glove.

In the meantime, Microsoft is betting big on another design language that’s supposed to completely overhaul the experience with Windows.

The mix of Fluent and Mica is what currently powers the world of Windows, though it goes without saying that everything is still a work in progress at this point.

“Mica is an opaque, dynamic material that incorporates theme and desktop wallpaper to paint the background of long-lived windows such as apps and settings. You can apply Mica to your application backdrop to delight users and create visual hierarchy, aiding productivity, by increasing clarity about which window is in focus. Mica is specifically designed for app performance as it only samples the desktop wallpaper once to create its visualization. Mica is available for UWP apps that use WinUI 2 and apps that use Windows App SDK 1.1 or higher, while running on Windows 11 version 22000 or later,” Microsoft itself explains.
