Latest build continues optional update refinements

Microsoft is working on a series of changes for the next Windows 10 feature updates, including additional refinements to the experience you get when trying to install optional updates.

Beginning with Windows 10 20H1, also known as version 2004, users will be provided with a new section in Windows Update to see the available optional updates. The new menu will be listed under:

Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View optional updates

Windows 10 build 19536, which is now available for users in the Fast ring, further polishes this feature, with Microsoft explaining that specific improvements for drivers are also in the works.

“We’re still working on making it easier for you to see all optional updates (including drivers, feature updates, and monthly non-security quality updates) in one place. For drivers, you no longer need to browse Device Manager for a specific device to update. Windows Update will automatically keep your drivers up to date, but if you’re having a problem, one of those optional drivers might help,” Microsoft says.

Known issues and general improvements

The same build also brings a new family group setup experience that allows users to configure other members of the family right from the OOBE. This happens after a device reset, as Microsoft doesn’t plan to release new ISO images for this build.

There are obviously other fixes and improvements, but also known issues, and you can check them out in the box after the jump.

One problem which you should keep in mind when installing this build causes the update process to hang for many hours. Microsoft says it’s already investigating the bug, but an ETA isn’t available just yet.

And last but not least, the Documents section under Privacy comes with a broken icon, and this is likely to be resolved in the next build.
